Family Focus Resources
The family focus project exists to create resources and events to help families with children, who have a loved one with injury or trauma as a result of military service to be able to thrive together.
*Please note that these resources are not for distributing outside of The Ripple Pond Membership without express permission.
When a family member is living with any kind of injury or trauma following military service, it affects the whole household, including children. Children may not always have the words to express what they feel, but they notice when things change. They may sense when you're struggling, even if they don’t fully understand why.
That's why we have produced the following resources to help you with the conversations that you are already having. They are differentiated for KS1, KS2 and KS3, so that you can adapt them to meet the needs and understanding of your child (ren). In them you will find advice around having conversations, a script with age appropriate language to talk about injury, as well as optional video links and further resources to support ongoing conversations.
Thinking Family: Spring Edition
Take a look inside our Spring E-magazine, Thinking Families. This resource is there to give ideas and resources to help the whole family thrive. We want to help families celebrate growth in every way, from seed to garden, from conversation to communication.
Inside the magazine there are ideas and resources to try at home, worksheets to print, and activities to enjoy together.
We’re also thrilled to launch our “Sunflower” competition. We can’t wait to see how tall our sunflowers grow. There's a sunflower growth chart plus much more.
Connecting through Remembrance
Remembrance can be complicated for families to navigate when there is trauma and injury from military service in the family. We recognise that sometimes we need support to have the important conversations and these resources are there to support you to do just that; to talk, remember, and share as a family. It offers space for your thoughts, feelings, and memories. You can use it to tell stories, ask questions, or simply be together. There are activities designed based on age appropriateness, but you can adapt to meet your family’s needs.
In order to get the most from these resources: start with the resource overview before looking at specific age appropriate resources.
As parents and guardians you know your children best, so take time to read the resources first yourself before looking together as a family.

Navigating Fireworks
Navigating fireworks can be tricky for some families, because of their sudden loud bangs, rapid popping, bright flashes and smells that closely resemble the sights, sounds and senses of combat. These resources offer some thoughts to help you as a family find a way to navigate fireworks; before, during and after, so that the whole family can continue to function.
